Pericardiectomy

Pericardiectomy is used to relieve cardiac filling restriction caused by constrictive pericarditis. Median or small incision approaches are optional, and cardiopulmonary bypass and ultrasound monitoring are used when necessary. During the operation, adhesions are usually separated, and thickened, calcified, or fibrotic pericardium is removed to protect the myocardium and important blood vessels, and hemostasis and drainage are performed. In the early postoperative period, hemodynamic, heart rhythm, and drainage volume are observed under monitoring, with the goal of relieving constriction and improving venous return and symptoms.
