What is Vagus Nerve Stimulation (VNS)?
As an optional implantable neuromodulation approach, the surgery is performed under general or local anesthesia: the vagus nerve is dissected in the neck and an electrode is placed, the lead is connected to a subcutaneous pulse generator in the chest, and the incision is closed after testing and initial programming are completed.
